Part 10 is a little demonstration of why I have spent so much time prepping this car. The shots below were taken from two track days, one with the
PacNW AudiClub in February, and one in March with the Cascade Sports Car Club. I have another date coming up May 5, and have completed some upgrades for
that event... for those pics see the upcoming Part 11. Today we'll focus on some action shots.
These track days are open to just about any type of car provided it meets the safety regulations. Different clubs see different participants, but quite often
you'll see familiar faces. The Audi Club days are fairly laid back compared to CSCC, who often stage their open track days the Friday before a race weekend. As my
car is still on street tires and not fully race tuned, it can be interesting running on track with cars that have three times the horsepower. You really have
to stay alert. Plus the race drivers tend to get a little closer in the corners than the Audi guys driving their daily driver. Some shots you will see me solo, some with
instructors. I have my solo signoff but tend to still use an instructor for my morning sessions, to give me pointers of what to work on when I solo in the afternoon. You
can never get enough training, that is for sure.
You can also see why it is imperative to know that all aspects of your car are up to par. Portland can have pouring rain one moment and scorching sun the next, so you
have to be ready for anything. That means working lights, wipers, defroster, and good tires that can handle a bit of moisture.
Photo credits for the action shots are shared between my girlfriend Harvest and a fellow Portland 944 owner, Darren Lloyd, better known as Wipeout on the Rennlist forums. I thank them
for allowing me to post their work. Enjoy the shots of my car and others, and look for the next installment soon!
